M.J. Laforest Electrical Contractors Ltd. has been operating in the Kingston area for approximately nine years working in both the residential and small commercial sectors. Since the introduction of the OPA’s microFIT program, our company has designed and installed several grid-connected PV systems, both roof top and ground mount. Our
electricians are experienced and trained in the installation of various types of mounting systems, inverters, and solar panels. All of our systems are designed “in house” to accommodate each installation using the best possible components to provide the most efficient power output. Throughout our experience in designing and installing solar power systems, the systems have ranged from 2kW to 10kW. Most of our experience has been in the higher end of the range.
We have provided our services in the installation of grid-connected photovoltaic systems for various residential, commercial and institutional customers, some of which have been return clients. We have also contracted our services for continuing maintenance on previously installed systems, and other similar systems installed by other contractors.
The electrical components used in our previous installations have been custom selected to provide each project with the outmost power output to the grid, in a cost efficient manner. Each connection method is designed by our company’s Master Electrician and reviewed by the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and a member of local distribution company’s (LCD) metering department.
During every stage of a PV project, our electricians are monitored by a senior technician (foreman), whose purpose is to ensure that the installation is conducted as designed and work is performed with quality workmanship with efficiency. Our foreman reports the project’s progress to our office and to our client.
On all previous projects of both institutional and residential nature, M.J. Laforest Electrical Contractors Ltd. staff has ensured that all objectives have been met. From the initial design/installation stage to the final connection date, all coordinating has been performed by our staff, thus leaving our clients with limited involvement until the project has been complete.

Our installations have incorporated the use of MICROINVERTER TECHNOLOGY, where a compact inverter unit is attached directly to each solar module, thus making the entire solar power generator system more productive and reliable. Through the “Enlighten” website, customers can monitor and manage their solar power systems 24 hours a day.
